Liner:
It’s been a while since hip-house has reared its head in these parts, so we’re most thankful for Sabb & Zenbi’s new collaboration with rapper Born I Music. Nasty Girl takes a low-slung, shuffling groove that blends 808 snares with nu skool tech house rhythms, and allows the sordid vocal to take centre stage. Born I Music’s sleazy rhymes make this a great mix tool and an absolute joy to blend with. The Dirty Dub edit flips the script and delivers a more tribal-tinged techno monster, with choice snippets of the rap doing the damage. On the remix front, Nelski goes sprightly electronic house for his rework. An irresistible analog b-line funks its way around deft organ chords and snappy beats, with supremely cool sub-bass breakbeat interludes along the way and rasping lead lines thereafter. Tons of ideas are poured into his remix, Nelski showing up lesser producers as just plain lazy. It’s a very clever, fast-moving rework, and one that’s hard to put into words given just how much it’s got going on. Sonny Wharton rounds off this phat package with his chunky refix, looping the vocal up, bitcrushing it ever so gently and lacing it a typically saucy beast of a bassline. Less is more as far as he’s concerned, with the focus on winding hips and popping shoulders as succinctly as possible. Mission very much accomplished.
Hey y’all. Sorry I’ve been away for a while, still hard at work on King of Kings. I’ll be performing as the musical guest on The Charlie Visconage Show Thursday, March 8 at the DC Arts Center. Other guests include Restauranteur, Art Patron, and Film Producer James Alefantis and Comedian Akilah Green. Come out and see DC’s coolest new talk show and catch some brand new material from the album. It’ll be a blast. C yall there!

Hot Chelle Rae ft Born I Music – Tonight Tonight Remix (radio edit) by Darin Hager
International Pop Sensation and Heyday Footwear brand ambassadors HOT CHELLE RAE teamed up with fellow B.A. Born I Music & Monomental Music Group for an official club remix of their chart topping hit “TONIGHT TONIGHT”! Listen, comment and post everywhere!
Also, check out the announcement on Hot Chelle Rae’s Blog! Thanks to all of my fans – we need you to make noise about this one!
It was just six months ago that Born I Music rapped that he had “old Mobb Deep in his ipod shuffle” in his groundbreaking “All I Want is You” Freestyle. As fate would have it, 6 months later, the world has both Born and Mobb Deep together in the scorching new single, “Limelight”. Produced by DC’s J-Scrilla, ‘Limelight’s heavy drums and cinematic samples let Born, Havoc and Prodigy remain true to form, trading crazy heavy bars over Scrilla’s paranoid, hypnotic production. “Limelight” serves as the lead single for Heyday Footwear’s “Heyday Mixtape” (it was the Mixtape’s co-exec producer Jules Renae who brought Born & Mobb Deep together, clearly a wise choice!). The Heyday Mixtape drops May 31, available via TheHeydayMixtape.com. Get that!
